Investigation Needed Into $658,847 First Nation CEO, Business

WINNIPEG, MB: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) echoed calls today for a federal investigation into the activities of the Innu Development Limited Partnership, a business owned by the Sheshatshiu and Mushuau First Nations in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Leaked documents show the recently departed CEO received $658,847 in pay last year and $348,427 the previous year. Previous CEOs made around $100,00 annually. Since the information has been made public, the individual and band officials have been mysteriously unavailable for comment. No financial statements are posted online and one band council member has noted even he has been refused access to details on where the money has gone. “The grassroots from the community are right, an investigation is absolutely needed,” said CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig. “The feds need to investigate and determine what is going on. Taxpayers and grassroots band members are fed up with these types of stories.” "Crown corporations have to disclose their executive pay and financial statements to taxpayers," added Craig. "Why isn't this band-owned business disclosing its pay and financial statements to band members?"
