Jim Caviezel: We must be 'warriors' ready to risk our lives for the Gospel It appears that Mel Gibson's epic film The Passion of the Christ has made a rare and genuine Catholic disciple out of actor Jim Caviezel, who played the part of Christ in the movie. Speaking at a gathering of Catholic college students in Chicago this past Wednesday, Caviezel said that we have to be "warriors, ready to risk their reputations, their names, even our very lives, to stand for the truth." He said that to be with Christ we must stand apart from the world and bring the sword of truth, without compromise, without making concessions. "Set yourselves apart from this corrupt generation," he challenged those in attendance. "Be saints. You weren’t made to fit in. You were born to stand out."
He reminded listeners that there is a price for salvation, that it must be earned by hard stripes and suffering. "Guys, there was a lot of pain and suffering … before the resurrection," Caviezel said. "Your path will be no different. So embrace your cross, and race toward your goal." His talk beautifully echoed the teaching of the Savior, who said: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it." (Matthew 16: 24,25) The actor refuted today's "fake Christianity, where it's all happy talk - I call it ‘happy Jesus’ - and glory." He brought home the sobering truth that to rise with Christ, we must first suffer with him. "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us." (2 Timothy 2 :12)

Passion of the Christ actor: We must be ‘warriors’ ready to risk our lives for the Gospel

CHICAGO, Illinois, January 4, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Catholics must be ready to risk their lives and reputations to defeat evil in the world, Passion of the Christ star Jim Caviezel told a gathering of Catholic college students this week. Only through the faith and Christ’s wisdom can we be saved, Caviezel said, but it will also take people who are prepared to fight, sacrifice and suffer.
