There's something of a modest firestorm building over the question of Barack Hussein Obama's religious faith. Some insist on taking his word that he is a Christian while others say he is, like his father and his Kenyan relatives, and his step-father, a Muslim
I beg to differ, On the evidence, he is neither. Barack Hussein Obama, born to a Muslim father and an atheistic mother, raised part of the time by an Indonesian (and Muslim) step-father, attending a Catholic School in his step-father's homeland and later by allegedly Christian grandparents (but partially under the tutelage of the Communist Frank Marshall) may be Muslim-born convert to Christianity, but I doubt it. In his autobiography The Audacity of Hope wrote "I was not raised in a religious household. For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness. However, in her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology. "On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well. " According to one source, Obama studied for two years at one Muslim school and then two years at a Catholic school in Indonesia. "In both places he experienced religious indoctrination, but in neither case did the indoctrination take hold: during Quranic studies he made faces and during Catholic prayers he would look around the room. "Eventually, Barack Obama abandoned this non-conformism and skepticism to be baptized as an adult in the Trinity United Church of Christ where for 20 years he sat in the pews listening to the rantings and ravings of a fire-breathing pastor, The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. None of this tells us anything about his religious beliefs, if any. As with most things dealing with his personal life, everything is shrouded in mystery and hidden from public view. The most telling evidence available, however, lies not in all those documents hidden from public view, but in the man's behavior - that of an individual found, like his apparent deity, Narcissus, gazing adoringly at his own image. It is more than obvious that he worships that image. Have you not noticed the smirk on his face when he makes some self-serving point displayed on those ever-present teleprompters without which he is all but rendered mute. There is real danger here. This is the behavior of tyrants. This is Nero, Napoleon, Hitler, Mussolini, Ahmadinejad - all those would-be self-anointed deities. Self-worship is the religion of tyrants. When you believe yourself superior to your fellow man, you believe yourself entitled to absolute power over all those fallible fellow humans under your authority. As was astutely observed by Lord Acton, absolute power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Thank God for those founding fathers who foresaw the danger of tyrants arising out of the electorate and gave us a Constitution that limited executive power and authority. And thank God for giving the Founders the good sense to devise a system that will allow us to use the coming Congressional elections in November to put a serious roadblock in President Obama's march towards a Marxist-style regime.
