MSNBC: Hillary won't 'reassure' Dems email scandal is over - because more is coming.

If you tuned in Sunday morning to see the "inevitable" candidate's Meet The Press interview with Chuck Todd, you likely noticed the moment of "the big fail." Yes, the whole segment was another in a long line of Hillary Clinton's poor performances, but one question really stood out as problematic. Check Todd acknowledged that Democrats are nervous over Hillary's seemingly endless scandals, and he offered her the chance to reassure them that there was nothing more to the email story:

CHUCK TODD: It has the feel of a drip, drip, drip. Can you reassure Democrats that there's nothing else here? HILLARY CLINTON: Well, it is like a drip, drip, drip. And that's why I said there's only so much that I can control. But what I have tried to do in explaining this is try to provide more transparency and more information than anybody that I'm aware of who's ever served in the government. And I'm happy to do that because I want these questions to be answered. In case you missed it, that was Washington-speak for "no I can't reassure them." Clinton takes a stab at pretending that the whole story is a political atack engineered by her opponents, but it's painfully obvious that the old "vast right wing conspiracy" line is no longer working for her. Hillary can't reassure anyone that the scandal has ended, because it hasn't - and she knows it. What's worse is that it's so obvious that even Chuck Todd knows it. Check out the following segment from today's "Morning Joe," where Todd concedes that more is on the way, and no, it's not just part of some Republican attack plan.

As Todd says:

"She is not willing to say there's no more stuff that's going to come out. That I thought that she wanted to make it clear yesterday hey, more stuff could come out. There could be more revelations or there could be more charges. She said some of them could come from the Republicans, I think she was trying to politicize it a little bit, but she was basically, to me it was sending a signal to supporters, hey, maybe this doesn't go away but I'm trying to figure out how to handle it."

So she's letting us know she's in crisis management mode because the crisis is going to be ongoing. If her party and donors were hoping to hear some kind of confidence-building statement, "I'm trying to figure out how to handle it" is probably not it. Sadly, since she knows more is on the way, it's the best she's got. The threat of more email revelations appearing after she'd already promised the story was over would be more damaging than simply admitting that the story isn't going to end. That's a weak position for any candidate, but particularly for one whose favorable numbers are already in free fall. The full, original, interview with Todd appears below.
