My Vision On the 62nd Anniversary of the 'I Have A Dream' Speech

'On the 62nd anniversary of Dr King's timeless, 'I Have A Dream' speech, I view it through the lens of a 59-year-old, old school Black nationalist.

I'm a beneficiary of the integrationist civil rights movement while differing with entry into a society so opposed to us.

Not a critique of the civil rights movement, by the way--just noting a divergent view.

My vision is rebuilding the Black infrastructure which nurtured Dr. King and his associates in their youth--and mine. Especially post crack invasion for my and successive generations.

Shoring up our organizations and institutions should've been an allied impetus alongside forcing our way into others' infrastructure.

Integration should never have meant disintegration of our own communal ecosystem.

That's not Dr. King's fault incidentally. It was a consequence of the times.

My vision isn't in opposition to Dr. King's dream, as a review of his work would reveal.

He didn't want Black infrastructure sacrificed in pursuit of inclusion elsewhere.

Neither do I.

Old school Black nationalists, among others, work to re-integrate the community with our autonomy.

This era of the death of 'DEI' (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) is a perfect time to double down on doing for ourselves.

Original salute, as always, to Dr. King and his peers for all they did for our community.
