New Zealand is hosting two brand new events to the country in March: The Ultimate Waterman and Crankworx.
From March 14 to 21, The Ultimate Waterman, the newest competition in the surfing calendar, takes place in Auckland – one of New Zealand’s most easily accessible marine playgrounds. The six discipline event – shortboard surfing, longboard surfing, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) endurance and SUP surfing, waka-ama endurance and tow-in surfing – will see contestants following the ebb and flow of the sea to find the perfect conditions for their event. Held at Takapuna, Piha and Mission Bay beaches, the world’s best Ultimate Waterman competitors will be put through the toughest tests in New Zealand’s Pacific Ocean waters. Born in Whistler, Crankworx is now truly global. From March 25 to 29, Crankworx will be in Rotorua, New Zealand. This is the first time that Crankworx will be down under and Rotorua has secured the rights to hold the event for the next three years. Hosted at Skyline Rotorua’s new Gravity Park, Crankworx is the world’s largest mountain bike event and will attract 750 of the world’s most elite mountain bike athletes. Like in Whistler, the Rotorua event also offers access to watch the racers and lots of live music. Rotorua also has a lot to offer visitors, from learning more about New Zealand’s Maori culture to visiting geothermal parks and the OGO.
