If you don't think President Obama is adding fuel to the fire of race relations, consider this: among America's youth, 13.9% of white youth are unemployed, 15.6% of Hispanic youth are unable to find jobs and 23.3% of black youth aren't working.
So what does the President do? He appropriates $2 million of a 21 million summer jobs program for refugee youth. While youth in American cities like Detroit languish with little hope of getting out of their circumstance, new refugees are presented with all the tools to succeed. That is just plain wrong. We should take care of our own before we allocate resources to refugees. The lack of jobs for youth is a tragedy. The tools for a successful and self-supporting adulthood are often forged while working summer jobs. Employment laws, minimum pay rates, and other factors are causing a loss of jobs for youth. Our government should be trying to help the situation not exacerbating it. Gladys Marsh Englewood, FL
