Spring in New Zealand is a season inspired with vibrant colours and unfurling new life, brimming with the flavours of early produce and new vintage releases, and a feast of imaginative festivals celebrating everything from seafood to wine. Below are three of the most popular spring events.
Whitianga Scallop Festival – Whitianga, Coromandel
All things seafood will take centre stage at the
Whitianga Scallop Festival. The festival, which takes place annually on the Coromandel Peninsula, is one of New Zealand’s most popular seafood events. Sixty cuisine stands will turn out mouth-watering dishes to the backdrop of musical entertainment from some iconic New Zealand performers. And, while scallops may be the star attraction, visitors can also enjoy a varied selection of other food, wine, beer and craft outlets. The event takes place on September 19.
Food and Wine Classic – Hawke’s Bay
The Food and Wine Classic (F.A.W.C!) is a series of out-of-the-box food and wine events set in stunning locations throughout Hawke’s Bay each year. F.A.W.C! is for folks who seriously love to eat and can often be seen with mucky chins, stained napkins and licking fingers after a meal. This spring’s F.A.W.C! runs from November 6 – 15, with over fifty individual events and celebrity chef events.
Toast Martinborough – Martinborough
Set on November 15 in the stunning
Martinborough wine village, surrounded by boutique vineyards in close proximity to each other, visitors to “Toast” can take in all that this beautiful region has to offer while enjoying unique New Zealand food, wine and entertainment. Martinborough is a boutique wine region, celebrated for its award-winning vintages.
