North American Auto Manufacturers have been dominated by unions for decades

To date I have not heard anything constructive coming from the demised ‘auto’ industry that I as a taxpayer feel I can support. The North American Auto Manufacturers have been dominated by unions for decades and my exposure to these unions, through Buzz Hargrove, is limited but suffice to know that unions of large industries are very powerful and well funded.

I as a taxpayer do not feel obliged to use my tax money to bail sinking industries unless, UNLESS the workers (aka the unions) step up to the plate first. These unions have large cash reserves for their employees in the event of a ‘strike’ for example. Also, these unions have huge pension funds worth a fair amount of money. I would suggest that if the workers of the automotive industry really feel that their industry is worth saving and is viable, then first let them show their support by offering their union bank holdings and pension funds first. Then maybe I would be more comfortable with governments’ using MY tax money if there is a short fall. Many industries are going under due to the ‘off shoring’ of labor. Perhaps it is time that the ‘labor’ unions in North American put their money where their industry is. L.G. Anderson Spruce Grove, AB
