The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today criticized the use of Ontario government money to host a Flick-Fest concert in Estevan, Saskatchewan. CTF Ontario Director, Kevin Gaudet said, "Ontario tax dollars should not be used to Flick-Off Saskatchewan".
Estevan, Saskatchewan has been selected to host Flick-Fest; http://www.flickoff.org's national 'carbon neutral' film festival. The event is being billed as 'free', meaning free to attend. However, it is not free to Ontario taxpayers who are footing part of the bill through its $500,000 grant in 2007 from the Ministry of the Environment to the Flick Off organization . Other sponsors of Flick-Fest include Virgin Mobile Canada, Much Music, Roots Canada and Environmental Defence. The $500,000 Ontario Flick Off government grant originally gained notoriety because the target market of the campaign are youth and the logo profanely stylizes the 'l' and the 'i' in a manner to look like a 'u'.
