QUEEN’S PARK – Testimony from Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Vice-President Kristin Jenkins confirms that the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals withheld certain documents from the Legislature, PC Energy Critic Vic Fedeli said.
“Yesterday we learned that in a bid to hide the cost of the Mississauga and Oakville gas plant cancellations, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals instructed the OPA to redact and exclude certain documents,” said Fedeli. “Kristin Jenkins’ testimony is explicitly clear – there was an immense amount of political pressure to withhold documents.”
Fedeli added that Jenkins’ testimony builds on a memo that showed that Jesse Kulendran – a former Liberal political staffer – instructed the OPA to redact and leave out information ordered by the Legislature. “It’s obvious that the instruction to not release these documents had to have come from someone in the Minister’s office or higher.”
“Yet again, Premier Wynne and the Liberals have attempted to mislead taxpayers about the true cost of their politically-motivated decision to save five Liberal seats,” continued Fedeli. “I find it inexcusable that the Liberal government continues to cover-up this scandal that has left taxpayers on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars.
“Ontarians have lost all faith in the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals,” concluded Fedeli. “It is time for Premier Wynne to give taxpayers the truth – who directed the cover-up and what are they hiding?”
