NORTH BAY - An OPP investigation is a key step to finally getting some answers for taxpayers after the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals’ cynical attempt to hide the true costs to save Liberal seats, PC Energy Critic Vic Fedeli said today.
“Yesterday’s announcement from OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis about an investigation by the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Unit is an important step toward that end,” said Fedeli. “Taxpayers have been waiting a long time for the truth and it is sad that it has had to come to this.” Fedeli noted that the OPP's investigation is warranted given that five senior Liberal staffers have been tied to destruction of or attempts to destroy documents, and in some cases, those documents being placed on portable drives and removed from government custody. “Rather than being open with taxpayers about the billion dollars it would cost to cancel the Mississauga and Oakville gas plants, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals did whatever it took to protect their political power. “Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne can try and use whatever wiggle words they want, but the reality is - the Premier’s Office was involved in an orchestrated cover-up on the gas plant scandal and no one believes that they weren’t involved.” Fedeli concluded, “I hope that the OPP’s investigation will help us get to the bottom of this cover-up and that those responsible are held to account under the laws of Ontario.”
