Pathetic City Council Cries And Holds Hands Over Vote To Cooperate With ICE

Are these really the weak-minded individuals we want leading cities? I have frequently written about the left’s stupidity, hypocrisy, and hatred, but this display of misplaced emotion particularly upset me.

I know that one reason it rubbed me the wrong way is that it was a Florida city I never would have expected to have this type of drama originate from. I live in Florida, not this city, but I was still disappointed when I heard about this over-the-top display of mental feebleness.

The Fort Myers, Florida, city council recently held a meeting to discuss collaboration with ICE concerning illegal immigration, particularly regarding the community’s police force.

The agreement would allow Fort Myers police officers to question individuals they suspect may be in the U.S. illegally and process them for immigration violations if they are arrested for a crime.

Subsequently, officers can arrest individuals without a warrant if they believe someone is violating immigration laws and may flee before a warrant is secured.

Given the importance of protecting American citizens, it should be obvious that if an error occurs—something we all wish to avoid—it's better to err on the side of caution. One of the issues with law enforcement in the U.S. is that, in many cases, the left does not cooperate with ICE, allowing criminals to remain free. Even when these individuals are arrested and taken into custody, some judges impose a revolving-door justice system, leading to the premature release of criminals back onto the streets.

However, after hours of public testimony and debate the vote failed because it ended in a tie, 3-3, and as infuriating as it is to think that three adults would disregard the safety of themselves and those around them, leftist theatrics were also involved. Those who voted to oppose ICE and to throw reality and caution to the wind cried and bellowed like spoiled children while holding hands.

The news quickly reached the state's Attorney General, James Uthmeier, and Governor Ron DeSantis. Uthmeier, who took office just a month ago, warned the council that Governor DeSantis could remove them from their positions if they did not permit city police to inquire about individuals' immigration status and detain those who were subject to deportation.

In a letter to the council, Uthmeier said this:

“Failure to correct the Council’s actions will result in the enforcement of all applicable civil and criminal penalties, including but not limited to being held in contempt, declaratory or injunctive relief, and removal from office by the Governor.”

"The Fort Myers City Council’s vote to not approve the police department’s 287(g) agreement with ICE is very troubling. Preventing a local law enforcement agency from entering into a 287(g) agreement with the federal government prevents that agency from participating in certain federal immigration operations."

“These council members’ actions likely run afoul of Florida Statute, and my office will be investigating.”

In a post on X, Governor Desantis stated:

"Thanks to the laws we’ve recently enacted in Florida, local entities are required to participate in federal immigration enforcement. The 287 (g) program trains local law enforcement to aid ICE. Florida will ensure its laws are followed, and when it comes to immigration — the days of inaction are over. Govern yourselves accordingly.”

Rep. Byron Donalds (R), who represents the Fort Myers area, and is running to be the next governor, also criticized the city council for what he calls its:

"Atrocious disregard for the safety and security of our Southwest Florida community," saying the decision not to pass the agreement should be "roundly condemned."

"We are putting the American people first again and every council member who voted to flagrantly violate federal and state law should lose their job."

This group of “bleeding heart liberals” are disgusting. After enduring a deliberate invasion of our country orchestrated by the faux Biden administration and seeing the damage it has caused, these crybabies ignore the truth and put their own community and the state in danger.

It’s another example of liberals voting about their “feelings” instead of doing what’s right, upholding the law, and protecting the country.

People this weak are not fit to hold any public office. Far too often, their delicate sensibilities are bruised, and they revert back to their delusional agenda.

Bounce them as soon as possible and replace them with American citizens who understand the law. It’s time for these sad snowflakes to melt away and disappear.
