Paul Ryan: 'I want to put this to rest. ...count me out'

Whether you're praying someone will usurp Trump, hate the establishment, love Ted Cruz, or are still mad that Jim Gilmore dropped out, you've no doubt heard the speculation. The GOP is headed for a brokered convention and Paul Ryan will be the nominee. Ignore the fact that he's denied it over and over again. He did the same thing about becoming Speaker of the House, and his denials have all been a bit ...weak. Today Ryan sought, yet again, to kill the rumors.

“Let me be clear, I do not want, nor will I accept, the nomination for our party. SO let me speak directly to the delegates on this. If no candidate has a majority on the first ballot, I believe that you should only choose from a person who has actually participated in the primary. Count me out. I simply believe that if you want to be the nominee for our party, to be the President, you should actually run for it. I chose not to do this. Therefore, I should not be considered, period, end of story. I just think it would be wrong to go any other way. So let me say it again. I am not going to be our party’s nominee.”
That's pretty definitive. Sounds like he's smart enough to back away from the 2016 bloodbath, secure in the knowledge that 2020 is just four short years away. By then the political field will be a bit more settled, spoilers like Trump and Sanders will have either taken over the parties or have faded away, and he can take a fresh stab at it. you can all go back to whatever it was you were doing and leave Paul Ryan alone. He's not going to be the nominee. Unless....
