Claims of dangerously accelerating sea level rise posing an imminent global threat to coasts have once again been challenged by real-world observational evidence.
None of the predictions based entirely on computer model projections came true. So, remember this when you see reports for sea level rise by 2150 and also near- term projections for the next 30 years. (1)
The greatest scientific fraud of all time is the fraud by which government functionaries alter data collected and previously reported in official data bases in order to support a narrative of impending catastrophic global warming. No other scientific fraud in world history comes close to this one in scope or significance. While prior frauds may have scored a crooked scientist, some funding, or maybe some temporary fame, this one drives trillions of dollars of worldwide government spending and seeks to transform the entire world economy reports Francis Menton. (2)
Newsweek claimed US cities would be under water by 2050, they forgot the same predictions were made for 2000 and 2020. (3)
A senior UN environmental official said entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Obviously, those nations are still here. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of eco-refugees, threatening political chaos. (1)
In 2005, the UN claimed, “Rising sea levels will create up to 50 million environmental refugees by the end of the decade.” Hasn’t happened.
Willie Soon pointed out that after two world wars, 1.5 billion cars and 35 million planes a year, the rate of sea level rise is pretty much the same as it was in 1860 or so. (4)
According to 1,000 tide gauges, spread all over the globe, sea levels are rising slowly at around 1 mm a year. An intense study of 60 beaches in Northern Europe showed a similar rise. The Topex/Poseidon satellite sea level data also showed the same tiny rates of sea level change in the 1990s.
Modern relative sea levels are near the lowest in the last 7,000 years. (5)
Fifteen new studies were published in 2024 documenting sea levels many meters higher across the world during the mid-Holocene, when CO2 hovered near 260 ppm.
There were 45 studies published from 2022 to 2024 indicating sea levels were approximately 2 to 3 meters higher across the world about 7,000 to 4,000 years ago before declining to today’s levels. (6)
Two studies identify Mid-Holocene sea levels in northern Norway as 7 to 9 meters higher than today before declining to the present. (7)
All of this supports the observation that recent sea level rise in recent centuries is thus well within the range of natural sea level variations.
NOAA year 2024 measured US Station Sea Level Trend data outcomes established that alarmists 4 decades long hyped claims of high rates of accelerating sea level rise due to increasing man-made CO2 emissions have clearly failed. (8)
These updated measurements continue to demonstrate that climate alarmists claim of hugely growing rates of sea level rise acceleration are completely out of touch with NOAA’s overwhelming data reflecting measured rates of relative sea level rise.
Says Larry Hamlin, “It’s time to stop using 4 decades long spectacularly failed climate model hyped sea level rise schemes to mandate absurd energy policy schemes that are destroying our necessary and beneficial need for future economic growth.”
Regarding glaciers, recent research shows temperate glacier ice flows more steadily than previously thought, leading to lower projections of sea level rise. (9)
Rising sea levels have been the poster alarm scare for decades with their associated riff of billions of climate refugees on the move in the near future.
As is usual, it is a shame that mere facts get in the way of unhinged political rants.
A Dutch research project found than since 1985 the world had actually gained more land than was lost to water. (10)
With sea level rising and ice caps melting, it’s easy to believe that more of Earth’s land is covered by water every year. While this is certainly true in some places, a study found that there is actually slightly more land surface exposed than there was 30 years ago.
Between 1985 and 2015 around 173,000 square kilometers (67,000 square miles) of water were transformed into land and 115,000 square kilometers (44,000 square miles) of water shifted to dry land. That’s a net gain of land area the size of Lake Michigan.
Some changes had never been mapped before, such as then damming of the Rimjin River in North Korea just north of the border with South Korea. Surprisingly, coastal areas across the globe had a net gain of more than 13,000 square kilometers (5,000 square miles) of land, largely due to human construction that has outpaced natural erosion. (10)
So far as the river basins of the Himalayas are concerned, a recent science paper discovered that Bangladesh had experienced a 13.7% growth in its coasts since 1990. (11)
As Early as 1989, UN activist Noel Brown was talking about entire nations being wiped off the map by 2000. One-sixth of Bangladesh would be flooded and this would displace a quarter of its coastal population, amounting up to 25 million people.
The online science publication No Tricks Zone notes that the opposite has happened, with the total land surface of the country expanding from 134,382 km2 to 137,656 km2. The coasts around the Bay of Bengal have grown by 13.7 percent to 20,330 km2, while the population has swelled to around 173 million. (12)
No Tricks Zone observes that the recent Bangladesh land expansion was a consequence of receding relative sea levels along the coasts and synchronous seaward coastal land growth.
It also notes that coasts are growing elsewhere, sourcing a 2016 BBC report on the Deltares project. “We expected that the coast would start to retreat due to sea level rise, but the most surprising thing is that the coasts are growing all over the world,” said Dr. Fedor Baart. “We were able to create more land than sea level rise was taking,” he added. (13)
Many small island states in the Pacific are growing in size due to natural accretions but that doesn’t stop a worldwide green campaign to divert huge amounts of cash to pay for climate reparations. Atolls are known to grow with rising water levels. This has been known for years if not decades. A 2019 global scale analysis of 709 islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans revealed 89% were either stable or growing in size since the 1980s. (14)

John William Dini, know to all as ‘Jack’, passed away at the age of 89 on June 17, 2026. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Nov. 14, 1936.
He published two books, a technical book on materials science and coatings and another on environmental issues. In retirement, he wrote extensively on various environmental issues for online publications.
He was a skilled leaded glass hobbyist, creating more than 20 lamps and many panels. He was a jogger for many years, competing in over 300 long distance races. He was a slow runner, not wanting to take the glory away from others. His secret was to start slow and taper. He and Anne traveled extensively, visiting over 70 countries.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of 67 years, and sons Mike, Steve, and Paul. If you were to meet him somewhere, he would sum up his life as ‘peaches and cream’.
