Indeed, the David Suzuki brand has heft. The World Conference on Sport and the Environment is in our city this week. To coincide with this conference, the Suzuki Foundation released a report Monday, called On Thin Ice, that claims winter sports in Canada are threatened by climate change. During a press conference at the Sport and Environment event, the estimable Dr. Suzuki offered this alarming sound bite: "The big image every youngster has seen growing up is of Wayne [Gretzky] learning to play hockey in a backyard rink that his dad would make for him every year.
