“In April 2017, Andrew Scheer signed a pledge for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s youth organization, promising that if elected he would balance the budget within 24 months of taking office. “Today, Scheer indicated that if elected he would not balance the budget for five years. “Canadians are already suffering the consequences of breaking a balanced budget promise: Justin Trudeau’s fiscal recklessness will mean at least $100 billion in additional debt piled on the backs of our children and grandchildren. “The longer a return to balance is delayed, the more debt will accumulate and the longer Canadians will see billions wasted on interest payments. “We call on Scheer to stay true to his original word and balance the budget within 24 months of taking office.”
