Texas business produces ‘thin blue line’ stickers in support of police

April Killingsworth is the manager of Tangent Signs in Walker County, Texas. The company makes stickers, banners, decals and signs, some of which are put on vehicles. Earlier this month, Killingsworth decided to have a thin blue sticker made that she could put on her vehicle to show support for the police. She made the decision shortly after the execution-style murder of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth. As people are prone to do these days, Killingsworth posted what she had done on Facebook. She announced that stickers would be available for anyone who wanted one and asked an employee to make some. When asked how many, the manager said five, thinking there are not many people who want to show their support for police.

Within 48 hours, cars were lined up in front of Tangent Signs and down the highway to get one. People came from all over East Texas to get a banner in order to show their support of the police. Killingsworth told KTRE she was surprised how many cars were lined up to get one when she arrived at work. She said, “It was unbelievable. I made the turn and I was like ‘Oh wow, look at this.’ I had to fight to get into my driveway.” And it wasn’t only East Texans that wanted a thin blue line banner. Emails began arriving at Tangent Signs from all over the country including some from NYPD police officers. Killingsworth has lost track of how many of the blue stripes were made. Tangent Signs is now providing products on their website that contain a thin blue line. They are available for suggested donations plus shipping. Killingworth said Tangent has gotten behind in their regular sign making business because of the demand for thin blue line stickers. But she said, “We’ll catch up. We always catch up.” Despite the constant war on police highlighted in the media, there is no shortage of Americans who support the men and women in law enforcement.
