Trump takes MI, HI, MS, Cruz takes ID. Delegate count still a horse race

Earlier, Dan gave you the rundown on Bernie's Michigan upset. Now, let's take a look at how things shook out on the sane side of the aisle. ...OK, fine "sane by comparison." First and foremost, Donald Trump had a great night. He sailed to easy, double digit, wins in Michigan, Hawaii, and Mississippi. Ted Cruz managed to take Idaho, and he’s keeping the delegate count close – for now.

Here's how the evening breaks down:

Michigan

Trump: 36.5 % - 25 Delegates Cruz: 24.9% - 17 Delegates Kasich: 24.3% - 17 Delegates

Mississippi

Trump: 47.3% - 24 Delegates Cruz: 36.3% - 13 Delegates

Idaho

Cruz: 45.4% - 20 Delegates Trump: 28.1% - 12 Delegates

Hawaii

Trump: 42.4% - 10 Delegates Cruz: 32.7% - 6 Delegates

The Trump v. Cruz battle, on the other hand, is still a delegate horserace

As you can see, it was an ugly evening for anyone whose name isn't Trump or Cruz. It was particularly brutal for the Romney/Rubio ticket, which was shut out of the proceedings in all of three of the mainland "threshold" states. The delegate totals now look like this: Trump takes MI, HI, MS, Cruz takes ID. Delegate count still a horse race Going forward, the polling shows Rubio being crushed in his home state, and it's become virtually impossible to see how he can turn things around. The Trump v. Cruz battle, on the other hand, is still a delegate horserace - albeit one that might be cleared up considerably after the Florida and Ohio primaries.
