The investigation into the 2016 presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald Trump started earlier than the official date listed in the final report by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee. According to the Mueller report, the FBI opened the counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign on July 31, 2016.
