As a self described "safety creator," (combination grassroots advocate and security consultant) one could assume I quickly digitally signed California Governor Gavin Newsom's Right To Safety online petition.

The devil's in the details and anti safety details in his proposed constitutional amendment to limit private firearms ownership insures I won't ever sign it.

I do agree with its stated purpose of stopping mass shootings. I don't agree that disarming non mass shooters, i e. most legal gun owners, is the way to do it.

Ironically, I'm not even what critics of Second Amendment advocacy would term a 'gun nut'. My timelines aren't loaded with images of my striking armed poses. Nothing wrong with (non criminal, non psychotic) folks who do that by the way. It's just not a personal choice.

Private citizens ability to readily access and create ballistic safety in self defense and defense of others is a reliable barometer of how 'human' one is seen by given jurisdictions.
I use loaded terms like "human enough" in these situations to underscore supreme seriousness of the matter at hand.

Were Governor-and rumored Democratic presidential candidate-Gavin Newsom to have his way, we wouldn't be considered very human under his amended US constitution.
We'd be allowed weapons with ridiculously low magazine capacity in an era of multiple attacker car jackings, armed robberies, home invasions and acts of politically motivated domestic terrorism.

At best, unarmed or under-armed (no typo) citizens would be expected to suffer silently while overrun by phalanxes of gun firing felons.
