One needs to question boldly what the whole revelations by wikileaks has in the long term freedom of the internet. The information being revealed falls out of the scope of the FOIA and the source being cited, a private in the Army having full access to the vast amount of this information has a tint of a rat withering in a trap.
In recent days and months we have seen the emergence by not only this government but by those of other countries calling for regulation and censoring of the internet, this ongoing dump of sensitive information is the perfect pretense to enacting these measures. Espionage on this scale cannot be achieved by amateurs when we had the biggest espionage war for over 50 years by professionally trained intelligence agencies and agents. It would be hard to fully comprehend that a private in the armed services would have access to this kind of information and that this person would find a willing recipient to publish this material when you had agencies such as the KGB drop the ball on things like the SR71, and F117 project. If you have been following the media coverage of this and the words spoken by the talking heads in both the government and media you can follow the underlying theme and unspoken words that are being implied. Over the last ten years and in particular the last five you have seen the emergence of the internet as a means of free flow of information and networking on a scale that has never been realized in any other time in history. As such the world has grown increasingly smaller and the ability for individuals to have alternate means to form opinion and the ability to organize contrary to what establishment would like for the populations to follow. At no time is the revelations being exposed excusable and those who are doing so need to be held accountable for the dangers that this exposes with our standing in the world and the long lasting harm that it creates in the function of our ability to secure stability and security of our nation. As we look at these dangers and at the long lasting implications we would be remiss if we did not question what might be hidden within these events. It is not unheard of that deception at the deepest levels might be at play. The motivation for this might come from many angles and from powerful forces, but the truth will never be known to why at this point in time that this kind of sensitive information is being exposed on the world stage or the long lasting fall out that will occur as a result. America and the American way of life is under assault from many angles, cyber warfare and discrediting the basis of our system is one tool to move us further down the path of decline as a world leader. "Leveling of the playing field" both internally and externally is a long standing desire by those who have felt that we have too many freedoms and that we have been the cause of all of the problems worldwide. We have seen those that have been speaking in this nature now for many years and what better way to bring some of this about than to target our national secrets and our ability to freely communicate. If we fail to question, we fail to properly protect our abilities to remain a free society with the protections entrusted within our constitution. At no time is it excusable that some of our deepest secrets be exposed on the world stage, but one has to look at some of the other things flying around in the UN and by what is going on around the world before we come to the conclusion that restrictions upon our abilities to make this world that much closer with the freedom that the internet has provided.
