Dick Morris and partner Eileen McGann (M & M), once again titters the world with his tantalizing article, “North Korea: The Whole World Is Watching” on DickMorris.com, May 27, 2009.
Laying out historical preludes and examples going as far back as the “early 1930s” the authoring duo tell how the world, and in particular, Hitler, Mussolini and the Japanese government waited with nervous anticipation to see what actions the League of Nations (the equally feckless predecessor to the corrupt and hapless modern United Nations) would take to head off and prevent a major catastrophe such as a world war. And from history, we know that the sum total of any such remedial action coming from the inert group was exactly zero.
Today, M&M tell us that it is North Korea and Iran who are waiting along with the rest of the world to see what actions the, animated-only-while-scheming-money-from-the-world-treasuries, but impotent to any serious or contentious world problems, U. N will take against the tin-pot dictator of North Korea for his flouting attitude on firing missiles.
But much of the U. N. along with North Korea and Iran will, as M&M state, do as little or nothing as it usually does in any world strife situation and like its predecessor, the League of Nations, do nothing. And while anything the U. N. does is usually about as effective as moths fluttering about a raging bull rhinoceros, they are very efficient at waiting until the problem has festered into a full-fledged tsunami promising extensive damage to the world.
Here in the United States, our current alleged leader who is serving under the duress of being subject to recall and removal should the truth ever be excavated from the secret dungeon to which it has been sent, is nearly as paralytic to accomplish any punishing or sanctioning procedures as the U. N. and the old League of Nations before that.
Like Neville Chamberlain, Great Britan’s ineffective pre-WWII Prime Minister, Obama prefers to “negotiate” his way out of fixes like this, hoping he can use his powers of mind-numbing rhetoric as he has successfully done with certain voters in order to get his way.
M&M remind us in their article that another party and country will be closely watching what actions will or might be proposed to be taken and this is Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel. This duo might have the most at stake in this game of Russian roulette with armed nuclear weapons; their lives and homelands. They won’t be satisfied with just any little old toothless pacifying resolution or continued stalling hoping that Allah or some other deity will come along to pull Obama’s chestnuts out of the fire.
If Obama shows little or no desire to get tough with North Korea then it can be assumed that there will be even less resolve with Iran in that Obama has already given signs of not being willing to get tough with that country insisting that they only want to have the capability for protection purposes, in spite of Ahmadinejad’s pronounced intentions to “wipe Israel off the face of the earth”.
Obama’s intransigence regarding appeasement with any Islamic nations speaks volumes of “wait and see” attitude, while Israel wants some assurances of either active “hands-on” help from America, or go it alone with their own resources.
For several years now the United Nations and lately the Obama Administration have depended on sanctions that have been about as effective as a wet firecracker. Iran has steadfastly maintained its progress toward creating a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East while all this thumb-twiddling was being carried out.
Should Israel place their trust in the hollow promises of the U. N. and the Obama Administration and just sit back and wait to be obliterated or do they move on towards self preservation?

Gerald A. “Jerry” McConnell, 92, of Hampton, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass., surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 27, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., the fifth son of the late John E. and Grace (Fletcher) McConnell.
Jerry served ten years with the US Marine Corps and participated in the landing against Japanese Army on Guadalcanal and another ten years with the US Air Force. After moving to Hampton in 1957 he started his community activities serving in many capacities.
He shared 72 years of marriage with his wife Betty P. (Hamilton) McConnell. In addition to his wife, family members include nieces and nephews.
