Gunning for freshman Democratic Sen. Mark Begich

Alaska Republican Conservative Joe Miller Hints 2016 Senate Run

In spite of his 2010 primary victory over incumbent Alaska U. S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and then subsequent loss in the general election to Murkowski when the "old liners" Alaska establishment GOP moved to her support, Joe Miller is expected to run again in 2016.
This bit of news was first published online on February 20, 2013 by Dan Well of Newsmax. Others have followed with similar presentations making it look almost assured. How this will sit with other possible candidates and, in fact, the current ruling GOP group in that state is going to be an interesting subject in the upcoming weeks considering the state of turmoil in that political party at the present time. As Newsmax' Dan Well states, "Miller won't be targeting Murkowski; he'll be gunning for freshman Democratic Sen. Mark Begich, Politico reported Wednesday" and there are others, but the confusion now roiling in the GOP at the current time will also be a major factor. This "Mud wrestling among Alaska Republicans" as proclaimed by the Alaska Dispatch and Craig Medred on January 23, 2013, began when the Alaska Republican Party (ARP) elected a new Chairman named Russ Millette with the support of supporters of failed presidential candidate Ron Paul and failed Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller took over the party."

Author Medred also stated "Some old guard Republicans didn't like it. One of them, party rules chairman Frank McQueary, petitioned to have Millette removed from office before he could be sworn in on Feb. 1. McQueary charged Millette was nothing more than the leader of a gang of 800 who "bullied and threatened and intimidated'' their way to power. Millette, in McQueary's view, "never contributed, never participated'' in Alaska Republican politics in the past, but now wants to run the party." It appears to me that some of the 'old guard Republicans' are not strangers to 'bullying' and other forms of strong-arm tactics. Where were they when Millette was elected, not appointed. If the election was authentic with no opposition at the time then what is the old guard's authority to remove him? "Watching the old men in suits earlier this week at the inquisition of Russ Millette, it was hard to avoid wondering what really constitutes a political party in this country. Millette is the chairman elect of the A-R-P, as the group likes to call itself. He won the seat." wrote Medred in the Alaska Dispatch. Frank McQueary, the petitioner for Millette's removal from the office of chairman of the ARP according to the Alaska Dispatch, is an Anchorage business consultant and longtime ally of departing ARP chairman Randy Ruedrich, called the April election won by Millette a "totally inappropriate attack on the Republican Party at the state convention.'' The new party leadership, he argued, doesn't represent the views of the state's 139,000 registered Republicans. So once again I ask, 'Where were these Petitioners for Removal of Millette as well as the other 139,000 registered Republicans when the election that Millette won was held? If as reported that Millette was not the most energetic and rousing cheerleader for the Republican Party perhaps he had good reason for his diffidence. I can relate to how I at times feel about the RINOs in the national Republican Party where I am perplexed when a strong conservative candidate comes on the scene but the "suits" of the Party ignore that candidate and in what they call "getting along with the other side of the aisle" in their areas of agreement with liberal Democrats. They are really modern day Benedict Arnolds - Hello, Senators McCain, Graham, Collins, etc. Getting back to Joe Miller who is bona fide conservative and proves so every day in his online columns and information blogs. It is expected that he will be faced with tough going, not only from the Socialist-liberal Democrats but from within his own political party. Both the current Alaska Governor, Sean Parnell and his Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell could throw their hats into the ring - in fact, Treadwell already has said he is interested in running. RINO lover Karl Rove is heading up a group called Conservative Victory Project PAC which likes to say they support conservatives, but they mean the McCain, Collins, Graham wobbly sort of conservative. Joe Miller is a REAL conservative who probably would not get Rove's support. Sarah Palin will probably support her old friend Sean Parnell who she supported for Governor, so Miller will have to mine his gold nuggets of support from the ranks of the true conservatives and leaders like former Sen. Jim DeMint. But he's their kind of candidate. Go Joe!
