Bernie's 'Jewish Outreach Coordinator' does it wrong. Gets suspended for calling Netanyahu a murderer

Progressives are supposed to say they support Israel. They're supposed to say that Israel has a right to defend itself. For the most part, they don't really believe it. Most of them would be more than happy if Israel just went away. Still, they understand that they have to feign some level of loyalty it in order to get elected. Bernie Sanders has not been particularly good at playing this game. On more than one occasion, he's let the mask slip and revealed his true feelings about Israel. As the Washington Post recently reported, Hillary is trouncing Bernie among Jewish voters - despite the fact that he's Jewish. So, in an effort to turn those numbers around, his campaign hired Simone Zimmerman to be their Jewish Outreach Coordinator.

It has not gone well. Zimmerman posted the following on her Facebook page: (Photo below) The message was quickly altered, but not before the fine folks over at The Washington Free Beacon managed to obtain a screenshot. The Sanders campaign has now suspended Ms. Zimmerman, in what the New York Times calls an "embarrassing misstep" for Bernie.

On Thursday, Senator Bernie Sanders’s campaign suspended Ms. Zimmerman, 25, after revelations that she had used vulgarities in Facebook posts about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and Hillary Clinton. The suspension, hours before a Democratic presidential debate in Brooklyn, made for an embarrassing misstep for Mr. Sanders, a secular Jew who, despite having lived briefly in Israel and being the most successful candidate of his faith in American history, is being pummeled by Mrs. Clinton among Jewish voters.

But why suspend her? Bernie's people knew exactly who, and what, Simone Zimmerman was before she was brought on board. Her history of criticizing Israel was well known, and her hiring generated its fair share of controversy even before the nasty Facebook post came to light.

With Ms. Zimmerman’s history of opposition to Israeli policies in the West Bank and Gaza, her hiring drew concerted and ultimately overwhelming pressure from American Jewish leaders. Her suspension showed that when it came to the high stakes and intense scrutiny of presidential politics, the establishment’s view of Ms. Zimmerman and her brethren as dangerous radicals still held sway even with Mr. Sanders, a candidate promising a revolution.

Until this became a news story, they were perfectly fine with this woman serving as their Jewish Outreach Coordinator but, once her true feelings were broadcast, they suddenly changed their minds? Are we supposed to believe that they didn't vet this woman at all? Of course not. Because she was only "suspended," we can reasonably assume that they're not particularly appalled by the content of her remarks. They're simply doing their best to make sure you don't know it.
