CNN: If the President is 'madder than hell' over the VA scandal, he should be 'mad at himself' for ignoring it

Obama campaigned on VA wait times in 2007

If CNN isn't buying the notion that the President Obama is "madder than hell," you can be sure that no one is. Check out the following segment from CNN.

Yes, you can absolutely see them circling the "blame Bush" wagons. As I wrote earlier today, I have no problem with blaming anyone who is responsible for this scandal. If Bush ignored this, or if someone in his administration made it happen, they should be dragged out into the light and forced to answer for it. However, if Obama intends to lay the blame solely upon previous administrations, he's going to have a hard time doing so. The fact that he campaigned on eliminating wait times in 2007 doesn't just make his current "madder than hell" position "rather hollow;" it renders it completely laughable. His own words show that he was aware the VA wait times were an issue during the race.

"No veteran should have to fill out a 23-page claim to get care, or wait months -- even years -- to get an appointment at the VA," said then-candidate Obama. "When we fail to keep faith with our veterans, the bond between our nation and our nation's heroes becomes frayed. When a veteran is denied care, we are all dishonored."
We also know that, once he'd won, his transition team was informed that the new administration couldn't trust the VA's overly optimistic data. How can the administration claim it was in the dark on this matter, and thus did nothing, when it was so provably aware of the problem 7 years ago? We're sure they'll try to go with the old standards, but "It's Bush's fault" and "Racism" aren't going to work this time.
