Communism Idiosyncrasies? Sell Drugs, Leave The Garbage

How in the hell did someone named Zohran Kwame Mamdani, who ran his campaign on socialism (a soft term for communism), ever get elected as mayor in one of the largest cities in America?

New York is a paradox. The citizens seem so resilient. Whenever there is a disaster (God forbid), they stand up strong and proud for America and American values. The city unites behind the flag, but the voting booth must scare them. They continue to elect Democrats who promise everything and deliver nothing. It’s probably a generational thing. Their parents voted Democrat, so they follow in lockstep.

Believe it or not, there was a time when the gap between Republicans and Democrats wasn’t a cavern wide. Republicans were just right of center, and Dems were just left of center. There were disagreements, of course, but nothing like the extremes that are destroying civility today.

Mamdani’s New York is off to a rough start. Drug tents are appearing throughout the city, with drugs being sold openly, prices prominently displayed, and police taking no action.

This problem didn’t begin with Mamdani, as several X users pointed out, but they have totally missed the point. He was supposed to make things better, and instead, they have become worse.

Drug dealers have been selling marijuana from tents on a busy Bronx sidewalk, sparking outrage from locals who called for the city to shut down the winter weed tents.

A video showcasing open-air drug tents—one of which boldly advertised "Good Weed Deals" on a handwritten menu—went viral on X this week. However, local business owners report that these questionable setups along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard have been present for the past two to three years.

Longtime local community advocate Angel Caballero told The NY Post on Friday.

“The mayor should step in on this immediately, nip this in the bud, and this is one of the things he should come up here to The Bronx to look at. Something has to be done, and the mayor has to do something to protect our kids.”

That’s the point. This fiasco got started when weed was legalized in 2021. Eric Adams tried to crack down on unlicensed pot shops, but not surprisingly, he was ineffective. The recreational weed rollout got caught up in courtroom drama and bureaucratic red tape. In the interim, and emboldened by weed being declared legal, illegal peddlers popped up. In their mind, peddling something that’s legal, illegally, isn’t as risky as peddling something illegal, illegally.

A 22-year-old nonprofit worker who grew up in the area voiced his opinion.

“If they are selling illegal drugs, then cops should shut them down. You can buy marijuana legally in New York City, so people do not have to buy from them. This is a residential area, and that is something that children should not be privy to.”

Caballero’s title is the executive director of the Davidson Community Center, where the BJT Bronx Commercial District is based. The dangerous drug tents have been a thorn in his side for years. He claims their group has lodged complaints with the NYPD’s 46th Precinct, but the “very aggressive” dealers keep coming back.

“They don’t care. They sell right in front of the kids. They are arrested, and within 24 hours, they are out.”

Mamdani’s spokesman Matthew Rauschenbach said City Hall is looking into the matter.

“New Yorkers have many options from which they can safely purchase recreational marijuana, and these tents do not appear to meet the requirements associated with legally selling marijuana.”

Vickie Paladino (R-Queens) posted on X:

“Drug igloos — another remarkable innovation here in the socialist utopia of New York City.”

Another Queens Republican Councilwoman, Joann Ariola, chimed in:

“Welcome to Mamdani’s New York City! Before you know it, the administration will be giving these guys vendors' licenses.”

City Council Minority Leader David Carr (R-Staten Island) managed to hammer both Mamdani and his far-left predecessor, Bill de Blasio.

“I guess it didn’t take long for de Blasio’s signature open-air drug markets to return to New York City. The tents are a nice improvement, though. I guess this is the socialist way of maintaining public order.”

Mamdani is yet another in a long line of New York City mayors who fail to achieve anything positive. His inefficiency, combined with his socialist and communist leanings, suggests that this winter in the city will feel as if it lasts the entirety of his four-year term.

In addition to the drug tents popping up, the city has a major garbage problem that Mamdani has done little to correct.

Mamdani and the head of the City’s sanitation division stated almost two weeks ago that they were back on track with garbage pickup. They blamed the snowstorm and slow snow removal for their inability to remove the trash. That said, there has been some improvement, but not as much as one would expect.

On January 26^th, when a mentally ill man rushed at police officers with a knife and was shot in self-defense and hospitalized, Mamdani used the opportunity to visit the man in the hospital.

Body camera footage released by the New York Police Department shows two officers responding to a 911 call made from a home in Queens on January 26. The call was placed by family members who reported that 22-year-old Jabez Chakraborty was experiencing a mental health emergency. During the call, a family member stated that Chakraborty had thrown a glass against the wall and requested that he be transported to a facility for help.

When the officers arrived, a woman invited them into the home. At that moment, Chakraborty appeared behind her, holding a large kitchen knife. The woman positioned her arm in front of him, prompting the officers to raise their guns and call out to Chakraborty.

The officers closed the front entry door behind them, creating a barrier between themselves and the 22-year-old man. However, surveillance footage reportedly shows Chakraborty lunging at the officers and attempting to push through the door, which led one of the officers to shoot him four times.

Mamdani not only took the time to visit the man in the hospital, but he is also calling on city prosecutors to drop their pursuit of attempted murder charges.

In a statement defending his actions, Mamdani said:

"In viewing this footage, it is clear to me that what Jabez needs is mental health treatment, not criminal prosecution from a district attorney, and we are talking about a family that is enduring the kind of pain that no family should, and an individual who has lived with schizophrenia for many years.”

"A person experiencing a mental health episode does not always have to be served first or exclusively by a police officer. It is important for us to have all of the options available.”

You have to wonder how an unarmed medical professional would have been able to stop Chakraborty. Patients suffering from mental illness can be very dangerous, especially when agitated. Perhaps Mamdani would have slept better at night if the situation had been reversed.

It’s clear that the new communist mayor is going to prioritize his agenda over the needs of the citizens of the city. Why concern himself with trivial things such as snow removal, illegal drug vendors, and garbage cleanup when he can play social justice warrior for the wrong people?
