OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today offered Bombardier its congratulations on landing a
major order for its CSeries planes from Delta Air Lines, which could ultimately be worth up to $5.6 billion.
“We are thrilled that Bombardier has been able to find a major buyer for its product,” said CTF Federal Director Aaron Wudrick. “Obviously, concerns that only another taxpayer bailout could keep the company afloat were entirely unfounded.”
Wudrick noted that Rob Dewar, the Bombardier executive in charge of the CSeries program,
told the Financial Post last month that “federal funding would just be an extra endorsement for the program … that would be helpful but is very clearly not required.”
“If it was ‘very clearly not required’ before this Delta deal, surely it is even more very clearly not required today,” continued Wudrick. “And we look forward to either the company formally withdrawing its request to the federal government for additional taxpayer assistance, or the federal government immediately rejecting Bombardier’s current request.”
