Last year saw six murders in that vicinity. I'd hoped we'd finish this one without any lethal street piracy but knew it was a vain hope.
This murder happened a day after two city council members and local police had a gun buyback event where 20 weapons were traded in for gaming systems. These council members are part of the prevention wing of an informal united front against crime. I sincerely hope this prevents a future act of violent community treason.
Needless to say, I'm doubtful.
Today's murder says to me as a member of the protection wing of the community that ideas like sharpshooters atop businesses and safety outreach where community members stand watch to detect and defend against street pirates aren't so far fetched.
Unless proven spectacularly wrong, suspects won't be revealed as rogue College Republicans, TPUSAers, Young Americans For Liberty nor Young Americans For Freedom members.
I'm not making light of this tragic crime nor placing young conservative organizations on a pedestal.
I'm shedding light on a tactical reality that youthful armed right wingers with bad intentions are decidedly distant threats.
Armed wrong wingers born and raised in my community are the closer threat, racist mass murderers Dylann Roof and Payton Gendron, the Buffalo supermarket attacker, duly noted.
From apolitical street pirates, to the dangerously mentally ill or politically motivated ideologues with murder in mind, my stance is simple: deadly force is life support.
Your willingness to use deadly force is all the support you have while under life threatening attack.
