Donald Trump Gearing Up to Award Obama Second Term

Donald Trump said today that he will “probably” run as an independent if he cannot win the GOP nomination for president. I was amused by Trump until that very moment. He was a fun diversion of serious politics for a while. Now it seems assured that his goal is to get Obama reelected, not to win the White House himself. Trump told the Wall Street Journal that he’ll likely make an independent run at the White House because he hates “what’s happening to the country.”

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump. “The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.” Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”

Trump simply cannot win the White House as an independent. No third party candidate has come anywhere near winning the White House since the GOP first started in the 1850’s! In fact, the GOP is the only third party that has ever won. Technically, when the GOP first started there were three major parties. The new GOP, the old-line Democrats and the moderate Whig Party (the party Abe Lincoln initially belonged to). Once the GOP got a full head of steam, the Whig Party disappeared. But for a time the GOP and the Whigs coexisted along with the Slave-owning Democrat Party. Now, Donald Trump is certainly not a stupid man. He knows that no third party candidate can win in this country, especially if he is not representing any real, organized effort larger than himself. Even Teddy Roosevelt, one of America’s most popular presidents, could not win an election as a third party candidate. And Donald Trump is in no way as popular as Theodore Roosevelt was! His claim to be “very conservative” is obviously untrue, but besides that, Trump knows an independent bid is a losing proposition. So, this leaves us with one question: why? Why is he doing this? Why would he put his name on the ballot claiming that Obama is destroying the country only to split the GOP vote and allow that very man to continue destroying the country? What else but to scuttle any Republican candidate to allow Obama, the very man Trump claims is destroying the country, to waltz right back into the White House at the head of a new wave of Democrat power. There really is no other explanation. Trump knows he has no chance to win unless he’s the GOP nominee. He knows that if he runs anyway his being in the race will doom the GOP. Ipso facto, Trump is campaigning FOR Barack Obama.
