Give Peace A Chance

As the MAGA (Make America Great Again) right and MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) left form an unlikely but absolutely necessary 'unity party' to address this moment in history, I keep thinking about a phrase from the 1960s anti war movement:
"Give peace a chance".

The plea echoes from my childhood to now while watching warmongering by today's Democratic Party establishment and neocon artists of the establishment right.

I'm worried about service members, citizen warriors in the National Guard and Reserve and more chillingly, draft age youth.
My childhood was impacted by nightly combat footage of the Vietnam War, flag-draped coffins returning home and anti-war protests by students, school age youth and young veterans.

Biden's open ended involvement in Ukraine and assisting the Israeli counter offensive against Hamas and its allies has me worried.

Really worried.

His vice president is campaigning to win the White House and continue this dangerous warmongering without even the pretense of stating she would address Congress and the country about plans to disengage from two undeclared wars.

Our young people and their elders, may think my concerns far fetched.

Hopefully they're correct.

But the US Navy has seen more action in support of Israel's counteroffensive than at any time since the Second World War.

The Marine Corps and Army still haven't recovered from wounds inflicted by the occupation of Iraq under false pretenses and operations in Afghanistan.

In a time of lower enlistment, the infantry branches of the US military alone need fresh recruits to replace and supplement deployment drained regulars, guardsmen and reservists.

The fastest way to do so is to reactivate the draft.

Consider, young people are still required to sign up with Selective Service and with two very active proxy wars and others brewing put there, involuntary expansion of the armed forces isn't so far fetched.

Unlike the Vietnam War era, the 21st century anti-war movement has liberals, conservatives, libertarians and independents saying in one full throated voice: "Give peace ✌???? a chance!"

They intend to vote this sentiment on Election Day and will save young working class lives by doing so.
