A tough day for the White House at the Supreme Court gets even worse. First they learned that their pals in public sector unions cannot force non-members to pay union dues. And now . . . Hobby Lobby wins!
In a majority opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito, the Court has ruled that the federal government cannot compel private businesses to pay for their employees' contraception when doing so violates a religious conviction.
We're still fleshing out the details of this, and you can follow it at scotusblog.com, but we do know that the ruling applies only to closely held companies and not to publicly traded corporations.
Still, it's a huge win for Hobby Lobby and a huge win for religious freedom in America!
