Jay Carney follows Eric Shinseki out the White House door

Following the announcement this morning that he had accepted the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki "with regret," President Obama has just announced that Jay Carney is resigning as press secretary. Josh Earnest will replace him.

Apparently he's not leaving right away but he's telling the media right at this moment that it's coming. I'm watching the announcement live as I write this and he says he doesn't know what he's going to do next. This is the sort of thing the Washington crowd will get pretty excited about but it doesn't really matter a hill of beans to ordinary people, except I suppose to the extent that a more or less effective purveyor of the White House's BS might impact how effectively the administration can shove its big government agenda down the nation's throat. I don't really understand conservatives getting excited about this. What is going to change? Another Obama spinmeister takes the reins and does the exact same thing, and in all likelihood another Obama ally returns to the media. Nothing is better as a result of this. Or do you just enjoy getting a liberal pound of flesh even doesn't mean a thing? Regarding Shinseki, what's with Obama's statement that he accepted the resignation "with regret"? Not that I think he really means that, since Shinseki's exit gives him an opportunity to say, there, I did something . . . but why say you regret it that someone who performed his job with complete ineptness is no longer going to be doing it? Or might he regret it after all, because a) now Obama has to find somebody else and as Rob points out that means a confirmation fight; or b) he missed his chance to look decisive by firing him?
