Leo-appointed Academy for Life president suggests Catholics may vote for pro-euthanasia law

The president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, appointed by Pope Leo XIV, erroneously suggested that Catholics may support a pro-euthanasia law.

“From a Catholic perspective, the issue is, in short, to assess whether we are dealing with an ‘imperfect law’, to which it would nevertheless be morally right to give one’s consent, given that Parliament might otherwise readily pass more permissive and libertarian laws, which would be far more detrimental to the dignity of the sick and the value of life,” Archbishop Renzo Pegoraro told the Italian bishops’ newspaper Avvenire.it on September 6.

Pegoraro’s assertion contradicts the teaching of Pope John Paul II, who declared in Evangelium Vitae §73 that it is “never licit to obey” a law permitting abortion or euthanasia or to “take part in a propaganda campaign in favour of such a law, or vote for it.” ---More...
