Phoenix officer shot during traffic stop

“Thank goodness he was wearing his vest,”

Incidents like this are becoming a daily occurrence in the United States. CNN is reporting a Phoenix police officer was shot early this morning while conducting a traffic stop.

The officer, whose name has not yet been released, is in hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive. According to Sgt. Jonathan Howard, the officer was shot more than once. Several suspects fled the scene. “Thank goodness he was wearing his vest,” said Phoenix Police Chief Joseph Yahner. Some rounds struck the armor in the officer’s vest. More than one person took off after the attack and the car was found abandoned near the scene. Police say they are tracking down leads but so far have not released any names or description of the shooter or shooters. At least for now, police do not believe there is a connection to the shooting of the officers and a recent series of shootings along the I-10 in Phoenix.
