Police chief retires after Black Lives Matter Facebook post

Zander Guy, the mayor of Surf City, North Carolina, called an emergency meeting after a social media post made by Police Chief Mike Halstead was made public. The meeting resulted in the chief retiring. The town agreed to pay Halstead 60 days severance.

Halstead wrote the post on his personal Facebook page on September 3, just days after the execution-style killing of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth in Houston. According to Town Manager Larry Bergman, Halstead was apologetic about the post and had taken it down on his own accord. In it, Halstead describes Black Lives Matter as “nothing more than an American born terrorist group brought on by the lie of hands up, don’t shoot during the thug Michael Brown incident.” Halstead went on to blame Barack Obama, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan and the New Black Panthers for the anti-police climate in the country today. The former chief also noted if there was a white supremacist group marching and calling for the deaths of members of a certain ethnic group or a group of public servants, the government would not stand for it. It is hard to argue with that logic.

Halstead is just another victim of the war on cops in Obama’s America

Halstead also had a lot of criticism of the media, stating that until all the facts are in, the race of the parties involved is irrelevant. But if a black thug is killed by a police officer, the media and Obama are all over it. He also pointed out when a black police officer is killed by a white thug, people never hear about it. Halstead instructed his officers in the post to be vigilant and to take action if they are threatened and if they have to shoot a thug to do it. It is better to have to answer to it while alive than ending up dead. The chief ended with the hope that maybe the president and the media will wake up. Halstead had been a police officer for 35 years. While it is certainly arguable that, given his position, he should not have posted what he did, he was expressing the anger and frustration of what it is like to be a police officer in the United States of America today.
