Polish minister: Alliance with U.S. basically worthless

It should come as no surprise that the first countries speaking openly about the worthlessness of Obama as an ally would come from eastern Europe. They understand all too well what a con it is when you have western leaders who talk a good game about freedom and democracy, but do nothing to back it up.

And understand that Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radislaw Sikorski was once a big fan of the U.S. But that was when we had leaders who meant what they said about having the backs of freedom-loving friends. That's not the case today, and Sikorski isn't about to pretend otherwise:

Using vulgar language and expletives, Sikorski argued that the Polish-U.S. alliance could alienate two key neighbors of Poland, Russia and Germany. “The Polish-American alliance isn’t worth anything. It is even harmful because it creates a false sense of security for Poland,” the person said. “(We are) suckers, total suckers. The problem in Poland is that we have shallow pride and low self-esteem.” . . . Sikorski has been an outspoken critic of the Kremlin and has strongly criticized Russian actions in neighboring Ukraine this year. In the past he was a strong supporter of the United States. But he has become more critical of Washington in recent years, especially after President Barack Obama’s attempted “reset” of ties with Russia in 2009 and the subsequent scaling-down of the U.S. missile defense plan for Poland and other parts of eastern Europe. Amid recent violence in Ukraine, Sikorski has been calling for a substantial U.S. troop presence on Polish soil.

Poland was one of the first allies to get screwed by Obama, who upon taking office quickly welched on the commitment George W. Bush had made to install missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic. As the story indicates, it was all part of his dumbass "reset" with Russia - an effort to make a buddy out of Vladimir Putin. That worked out great. And this is hardly the first indication we've had that the Poles have had it with Obama. Not for no reason did Solidarity hero Lech Walesa openly support Mitt Romney in 2012. The Poles understand that if the U.S. intends to let Russia run wild, that jeopardizes their security. And as Sikorski indicates, friendship with the U.S. may be worse than useless if it comes with the promise of security support that might, in fact, never come. Remember when Bush had supposedly shredded all our goodwill with our allies, and Obama was going to make that all right? Just wanted to make sure you hadn't forgotten. Ah the good old days.
