While others have talked, America under his leadership has acted
President Trump began his speech with a detailed account of the accomplishments of his second term so far, including through strengthening the economy, increasing energy production, and closing the border to illegal immigration. “Two and a half centuries after the cause of liberty found its home on this continent, I can report to you with pride that America is back, and our country is stronger today than ever before,” President Trump said.
“Our economy is the envy of the world. Our military is the most powerful on Earth. Our technology is second to none, and we are leading in virtually everything,” President Trump said.
Of course, President Trump is right about what he has managed to accomplish in less than two years to restore America's greatness. But he made it clear that he was not resting on his laurels. The president said that while others have talked, America under his leadership has acted when necessary. “I do not believe in allowing problems to fester,” he told the General Assembly gathering. The rogue Iranian regime, whom President Trump called the "bully of the Middle East," and its “mad dash” to finalizing its development of a nuclear bomb, topped his list of difficult problems that he is tackling.
“Many presidents and many others just wanted to ignore it. They were unwilling to do anything about it, but they knew the problem,” President Trump said, explaining that he acted decisively to stop the regime from having a nuclear weapon. Upon taking office in January 2025, he tried the diplomatic route, but the Iranian regime refused to negotiate in good faith. After President Trump launched Operation Epic Fury in February 2026, he once again offered a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The U.S. entered into a ceasefire with Iran and attempted to resume negotiations, but the Iranians broke their word and continued to fire on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
