Electric Car Doors Opening While Driving

A Problem with KIA Sedona

These past weeks much is being said about Toyota's quality control engine and brake problems. I have a 2006 KIA Sedona (van). My wife takes care of some elderly, so we got a van with electric sliding back doors. We bought the van new.

Soon after hitting 15,000 miles, the left sliding door behind the driver opened up while driving on a highway in Queens, New York. (The door was locked.) Going 50 miles an hour at the time, my father-in-law, sitting there, was somewhat frightened. Getting off the highway to close the door was a problem. Traffic was heavy, but moving. For the next few days, the problem with the door continued to happen. The door would be locked, yet it would just open up while driving. (We made sure no one was sitting at the door and everyone in the van were wearing their seat belts.) KIA fixed the problem. To make a long story short, in all, both sliding doors had to be fixed twice each due to this same problem. (These fixes are documented through KIA.) I'm wondering if this electric sliding door problem is more wide spread. Jack Cunningham
