“Someone Should Have Seen This Coming” Does Not Apply

How many times after someone commits a horrific act do we hear people lamenting the fact that no one saw it coming? That hindsight 20/20 observation is usually followed by anger and disbelief that the authorities involved failed to act when they had the opportunity to do so.

Those circumstances don’t apply in the case of Anigar Monsee, a 29-year-old psychopath who was arrested in January of 2024 for posting disgusting videos that showed her boiling, skinning, and mutilating live animals on camera, while she smiled and gleefully interacted with a depraved fanbase that paid her to commit the acts.

In those videos, she slowly tortured a rabbit, pigeon, chicken, and other animals in her kitchen, while asking her followers for likes. In the original criminal complaint, police said Monsee "prolonged the torture by stopping to read and respond to comments" from viewers on her live stream.

“Once she got, I guess in her opinion, the appropriate amount or the desired amount of likes and viewers over the period of 10 minutes, she harmed the chicken until she ultimately killed it,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt. “How do you get in the frame of mind to do that to an animal? I just, I really can’t wrap my head around it. It takes a cold, heartless person to harm animals in this way.”

Last week, the Upper Darby resident, a town outside of Philadelphia, was convicted on all four counts of animal abuse. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, who were the ones that alerted law enforcement to the series of videos she streamed live on YouTube, as well as other animal rights groups, were thrilled with the conviction.

"The guilty verdict on all four counts against Anigar Monsee sends a powerful message: there is no excuse for animal abuse," said Carol Lutter, an organizer with the animal rights group Revolution Philadelphia. "Justice was served today for the innocent victims of this horrific cruelty."

Monsee's sentencing is scheduled for July 17. She faces up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Even now, this worthless excuse for a human being is continuing to display no contrition for the crimes she committed against helpless animals. In another display of demented arrogance, she is trying to play the victim by launching a GoFundMe campaign to try to avoid deportation. Her newest lie is that she was misunderstood for cooking “traditional meals.”

The fundraising page is riddled with lies and manipulations, as she tries to appeal to other dregs of society for help.

Right now, I’m facing the most terrifying moment of my life—I may be sent to jail or even deported over something I never imagined would put our lives in jeopardy: cooking traditional meals with animals like chicken and frog. This has turned into a legal nightmare, and I’m terrified of what could happen to my daughter if I’m taken away from her. She’s my whole world, and I’ve always tried to do everything I can to give her love, stability, and a future. I’m asking for help so I can pay for legal support and make sure my daughter is taken care of through all of this. Anything you can give—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page—means everything to us.”

Monsee is a lying, manipulative, psychopathic monster. For decades, studies have shown that people who torture or kill animals very often move on to worse crimes, such as murdering humans. Most hide their obsession with inflicting misery because they have at least some awareness of society’s abhorrence of vile, senseless acts of torture. Monsee even lacks that awareness, which makes her even more dangerous. She proudly displayed the depths of her degradation against some of the most innocent and helpless animals.

How were these videos allowed on YouTube? How can GoFundMe enable this person to seek funding after the crimes she committed?

From now on, this person must be closely scrutinized in every circumstance. She is a dangerous individual who lacks the emotional stability necessary to demonstrate compassion. No one will ever be able to say they weren’t aware of what she was capable of.

Maya Angelou, one of my favorite authors, shared this truism:

"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

In the case of Anigar Monsee, nothing could be more true.
