Your article on John Garvey “New CUA President says Catholic intellectual life needs renewal” by Maureen Boyle of CNS, tells of Garvey’s swearing-in as the 15th President of The Catholic University of America (The Pilot, Jan 28, 2011). The inaugural Mass took place at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D. C. - just one day after the March for Life.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Chancellor of CUA, was the main celebrant and homilist. He was joined by Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, Papal Nuncio Archbishop Pietro Sambi, and many bishops and priests. In his homily, Cardinal Wuerl praised Garvey. The story is startling in its omissions. Garvey, Dean of Boston College Law School (Jesuit) (1999-2010), donated $1,750 to Pro-Abortion Sen John Kerry. Pro-Abortion U.S. Rep Ed Markey was his 2007 commencement speaker (CatholicCulture.org 15/Jun/10), and U.S. Sen Scott Brown, also Pro-Abortion, was Garvey’s commencement speaker at BC Law in 2010. CUA President John Garvey, addressing the University’s unique contribution to the acquisition of virtue, said: “...Our lesson gains credibility if the children see a community of people they know and admire living it.” Who is Garvey kidding? Yours in Pro-Life, John O’Gorman CC: Cardinal Donald Wuerl, others.
