The UN’s ‘Widening Trust Deficit’

It is impossible to trust such a corrupt institution

There are very good reasons why there is a widening trust deficit at the United Nations, which cannot be fixed by rhetoric, symbolic gestures, and mere organizational reforms.

To start with, the United Nations has grossly abused its immunity status, turning it into egregious impunity for this globalist organization and its senior officials. The United Nations has inverted “immunity” to mean “impunity” from its own wrongdoing. This was true, for example, in connection with the lethal cholera outbreak in Haiti caused by UN peacekeepers and with UN staff whistleblowers who were harassed by top UN officials for exposing internal wrongdoing. This was also true in connection with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) employees’ complicity with Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel. There have been egregious coverups by the upper echelons of UN management, with no effective mechanism to hold them legally accountable in an independent court of law.

Dr. Rahman said that as the president of the General Assembly’s 81^st session, “I will work to advance human rights and uphold the General Assembly's role in their protection.” Is he oblivious to the fact that the General Assembly and its subsidiary body, the UN Human Rights Council, have perversely turned human rights on its head as a regular course of business? Or will he be knowingly complicit in such depraved behavior during his tenure as the General Assembly's president? Dr. Rahman’s promise to “lend the full support of my office to the high-level meetings marking the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration,” the anniversary of one of the UN’s most grossly antisemitic events, does not bode well.

Resolutions condemning Israel, demanding Israel’s unconditional withdrawal from “occupied territory,” and accusing Israel falsely of racism, apartheid, oppression, and genocide have become the norm. But Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups have gotten a free pass. And authoritarian member states, such as Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and Cuba, manipulate the language of human rights and justice to legitimize their own repressive regimes.

It is impossible to trust such an institution that regularly provides cover for evildoing.

Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for a “new model for global governance” even though the UN is incapable of governing itself in an honest, transparent, and efficient manner. He also has called for “a redistribution of power, wealth and opportunities,” which he labelled a “Global New Deal.”

Climate change and inequality among nations have become excuses for leftwing progressive demands to massively redistribute wealth from successful, more prosperous countries to failing poorer countries. In his first speech to the General Assembly as its new president, Dr. Rahman pledged to work to “advance the operationalization of the loss and damage fund.” This is basically a climate change reparations mechanism that is nothing more than another of the UN’s progressive wealth transfer schemes.

Indeed, globalist elites want to use the UN as a vehicle for achieving a global socialist utopia where massive wealth redistribution, open borders, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and suppression of “offensive” speech are the governing principles.

He talked about diversity and inclusion, but nowhere did he mention merit

DEI is a crucial part of the UN’s system-wide culture. The UN has developed a DEI Glossary, DEI Vision and set of principles, and a collection of DEI practices for use within the UN system. The purpose, in the words of the Working Group on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Sub-group on Vision and Principles, is to embed DEI principles “into everything our organizations do, from programming to operations leveraging these efforts to generate transformative change towards justice, inclusion and belonging in the communities and societies we serve.”

The new president of the General Assembly, Dr. Rahman, is all in with the UN’s DEI agenda. He boasted in his September 8^th speech that “women make up 60%” of his cabinet. He talked about diversity and inclusion, but nowhere did he mention merit.

Dr. Rahman spoke in his speech of “the difficult work to bridge our differences and forge collective solutions where none can be achieved alone.” But when we get past the lofty rhetoric we hear in the General Assembly chamber calling for respect for human rights, justice, and democracy, we find no common understanding of what those words really mean in practice. Coalitions of autocratic regimes, which regularly invert the truth, have managed to highjack the General Assembly on key issues all too often, sometimes with the help of cowardly Western European nations and Canada.

“Trust cannot simply be requested,” Dr. Rahman said. “It must be earned.” The United Nations has no chance of earning that trust so long as it continues along its present destructive path.
