The world’s priciest trailer park

Watching the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, one is tempted to venture a comparison with the alien bar from the first Star Wars Movie. Except that would be an insult to aliens. So let’s just say that the freak show in Denver is more akin to a trailer park, except those attending are slightly more, um eccentric.

Laying aside for a moment the goings-on inside the convention hall and focusing on what’s happening in the streets outside, it seems that every left, loon-fringe rump group is in attendance in a competition for who can put on the most bizarre street theater. There’s the 9/11-conspiracy group that believes al Qaeda and Mohammed Atta had nothing to do with the destruction of the World Trade Center; that it was all done at the behest of Bushitler and his sinister cabal of neo-con Halliburtonites. Then there’s the Code Pink group, purportedly comprised of “grassroots” women who want to stop the war in Iraq and all future wars and devote resources instead to issues of social justice issues such as healthcare, education and other “life-affirming” programs. Dressed in their trademark pink outfits, these people are marching around with placards advocating peace and unilateral disarmament. Somehow it seems to have escaped the notice of these grassroots types that having a powerful military keeping one’s enemies at bay is indeed a “life-affirming” activity. Then there are the anti-Gitmo protesters who march around in chains, orange, jumpsuits and black bags over their heads. There are the climate change protesters who dress up like polar bears in efforts to further frighten people into allowing government to intrude into their daily lives and decide what kind of car to drive or how to illuminate their homes at night. Inside the convention center things are equally interesting, as the Dems are celebrating their diversity. Only problem is their diversity looks a lot like lock-step from where I’m sitting, with the only diversity in evidence being the degree of nuttiness to which various delegates are committed on the traditional Democrat issues. The abortion activists are getting their just rewards both in the choice of Obama’s running mate and through the moronic musings of Queen Bee Nancy Pelosi who unapologetically maintains that the Catholic Church is in agreement with her regarding the question of when life begins. Perennial space cadet Dennis Kucinich, or as some know him, Congressman Moonbeam, is still going on about impeaching the evil Bushitler and the need for the United States to totally disarm itself in quest of world peace. Never let it be said that this colorful individual has any connection with reality, no matter how tenuous, given the wacko positions he advocates. Then, there’s Senator Hillary Clinton, who has managed to perfect the art of simultaneously sucking and blowing. Her address to the Convention reinforced her prime position in the annals of feminism and purported to throw her not inconsiderable support behind the nominee because she claimed he agreed with her. And speaking of Clinton, husband Bill brilliantly smoothed the ruffled feathers in the Obama camp, while managing to make his speech all about Bill Clinton. Most bizarre of all is the candidate himself, whose wife managed to paint a Cleaver Family-like tableau in reference to her own family. It was a marked contrast of the angry, hard-left Michele Obama that had to be sent into exile last February because of her intemperate raging against the American mainstream. Barack Obama is running on a non-platform of “hope and change”, neither of which are quantifiable concepts. His friends and associates comprise a rogue’s gallery of black liberationism and anti-Americanism sprinkled with just a dash of felony. And the Democrats are wondering why their nominee for President isn’t faring better at the polls. Have these people taken a good look at themselves lately?
