Time to End the Insanity

The time is long past to end the insanity that is the current version of the United States government.  It has grown too big to be properly managed under the United States Constitution, mostly because the federal government has usurped far too many powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution.  The government ran out of other people’s money 31 trillion dollars ago and this insanity must end.

The U.S. Department of Education is a failed institution and should be defunded and abolished immediately because it is not an enumerated federal function. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and all its “social programs” are a dismal failure and have never accomplished the goals they were designed to meet.  The department and these programs should be defunded and abolished.  The government has no business being a charity.  Charity is not an enumerated federal function. The U.S. Department of Energy is a failed institution and should be defunded and abolished immediately because it is not an enumerated federal function. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is another failed social program agency and should be defunded and abolished immediately because it is not an enumerated federal function. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security was a bad idea and should be disassembled and put back as it was before September 11, 2001. The U.S. Department of Justice has been corrupted beyond a point where it can be repaired.  It must be defunded, abolished, and reconstituted with all new personnel.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs should be defunded and abolished with all responsibilities transferred to the Department of Defense.  Military veterans should remain a responsibility of the military. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Department of Transportation all should be defunded and abolished immediately because none of these are enumerated federal functions. All other independent federal agencies should be defunded and abolished immediately because they are not enumerated federal functions. There is only one function the federal government excels at and that is spending money they don’t have to spend only to stay in power.  Any spending beyond budgeted spending should have stopped 31 trillion dollars ago.  Oh, wait a minute; I forgot that Congress has failed to provide the President with an actual budget going on two decades now. Some state legislatures may decide there is a need for some of the aforementioned functions, and that is exactly how the United States Constitution was designed.  If a state’s citizens want to fund some or all of these functions, it is their duty to say yes or no.  However, they are not enumerated functions of the federal government and should never have been assumed by the federal government to begin with. Will making such changes cause problems?  Absolutely!  However, there are already massive problems because our current structure of government is not working.  Most of those problems will cease to be federal problems and will become state problems, which they should have been to begin with.  We know the federal “one size fits all” approach is a miserable failure.  Each state is in a better position to handle their unique needs in ways that better serve their own population.

The economic train wreck is on the horizon

Most important, it will reduce the size of the federal government by about 60% and reduce the basis (opportunity) for government corruption by 80%.  The aforementioned agencies to abolished are where the most opportunities lie to buy favor from elected and other government officials.  Abolishing the departments and agencies won’t kill the federal lobbying industry, but it will cripple the lobbying industry. The United States of America’s ship of state is heading toward a catastrophic collision with an iceberg.  If the ship isn’t turned around with drastic actions, the land of the free and home of the brave will only be a footnote in history.  Without a massive adjustment in the makeup of Congress on November 8, 2022, that collision is likely to happen before November 2024. Lastly, the silver lining is that with the suggested reduction in the size of the federal government, there is the opportunity to actually start paying down the 31 trillion dollar national debt, so our great grandchildren don’t have to do it.  To use another metaphor, the political train wreck is happening before our eyes.  The economic train wreck is on the horizon because our nation can no more operate on credit than can your own household. The laws of economics will always prevail.
