Unreal: Anderson Cooper berates Pam Bondi for daring to help gay people after opposing gay marriage

Hat tip to Hot Air's Allahpundit on this one. I am a peaceful man. I don't get in fights and I don't lash out violently. It's not the Christian thing to do. That said, if it had been me on the receiving end of this complete jackassery on the part of Anderson Cooper, boy . . . I don't know. Pam Bondi has superhuman patience. She has to.

What a complete and utter jerk. Here's the notion he's trying to establish: Anyone who has not bought into the gay agenda up until now is a hypocrite if they do anything whatsoever to be supportive of the gay people who were victims of this crime. Rather than being thanked for overlooking differences of opinion and treating people with humane compassion, you will be pilloried for your longstanding refusal to be assimilated. Raise your hand if you think you'd find it difficult to resist taking a swing at him. I'm typing with one hand: Notice how he keeps demanding that she say if she would call herself a "champion of the gay community." Her point is that's not the point. Gay people are citizens protected under the law just like anyone else, and as attorney general it's her job to protect them. She will do that without hesitation because they're people. This answers, with deeds rather than just with words, the familiar liberal insistence that conservative Christian officeholders would be indifferent to their rights as citizens. Not at all, Bondi says. And yet that seems to be the very thing that so irks Cooper - that Bondi is giving her utmost for the victims because they are people, and not especially because they're gay. She's destroying the left-wing narrative that says conservative public officials would use their power and position to trash the everyday rights of people who happen to be gay. Far from it, she's giving her utmost for them because that's what they deserve, not as gay citizens, but as citizens.

Just because I oppose your gay marriage agenda doesn't mean I want you harmed in any way. If you can't understand that, then you're the one with the problem. Then again, Anderson Cooper's behavior during these five minutes does test my commitment to that principle, although it has nothing to do with him being gay. It has everything to do with him being a complete jerk.
