VIDEO: Ted Cruz auditions for The Simpsons

Confession: I'm generally not a fan of these candidate-attempts-comedy bits, not only because they're usually terrible but because I get a little tired of politicians trying to appeal to people on the basis of things that are irrelevant to the office they're seeking. I really don't care if I ever see Jeb Bush slow-jam the news on Jimmy Fallon, and needless to say I'd rather boil my skin in acid than see Hillary Clinton attempt to be funny in any way whatsoever. But dang. This is pretty good:

It's still no reason to vote for (or against) him, but maybe there's a tiny bit of relevance insofar as the left would have you believe Cruz is this fire-breathing ball of hate who wants to ruin life for everyone. Come on. No one that horrible could have this much fun and be this genuinely self-effacing. And he's pretty darn good too. I thought the Ned Flanders bit was probably the best of the lot, but even Homer he nailed pretty nicely. Not the most important story every, of course, but it's not bad for a slow news day and sort of a welcome chance to exhale after the heaviness of the news the last couple of days. Hey Rob, you think we could get him to read for some Twin Peaks characters?
