Your appearance at OFAH and Bill C-301

To: The Right Honorable Prime Minister of Canada Dear Prime Minister, I am deeply disappointed that Garry Breitkreuz has backed off on this most important of issues. One has to wonder what kind of pressure was put on him. It is absolutely imperative that C-301 remain as written.

Better to have a good law defeated than to settle for a watered down and possibly harmful alternative. I am however, delighted that you have shown courage and honesty by appearing at a major sports gathering that featured a fine firearm being raffled as part of a hunting package. It would be a terrific message if you had won it! Congratulations from millions of CPC supporters which includes a huge contingent of honest, traditional firearms owners who have never been a problem!! The vicious attacks on honest firearms owners, who have never been any problem, must stop. We are deeply disappointed in your spokesperson, Kory Teneycke, who stated that “there is clearly a distinction between a pistol and a rifle.” Both are responsibly owned, and are enjoyed extensively by collectors and many thousands of people in the shooting sports activities, and have been for centuries. To make such a statement is disingenuous, to say the least. I am taking the liberty of quoting Tony Bernardo of the CSSA who said, and I paraphrase, “blaming guns for gang and drug murders is like blaming cameras for child pornography.” Attack the criminals, not the traditional farmers, hunters and those in the shooting sports. It is one of the safest activities in the world, and the fact that insurance can be had for the paltry sum of $7.95 per YEAR for 5 million dollars liability insurance, proves it. Misuse of firearms by honest, reponsible owners does not even register actuarially, and there are at least seven million of us in Canada. We are all cognizant of yours and Garry’s promise to repeal C-68, a very bad law that was passed based on lies, diversion of funds from more useful programs, and doctored statistics that finally had to be forcefully corrected by the RCMP. The registry is useless and dangerous to everyone, grossly incomplete, error riddled, and horribly expensive. We realize that completely repealing a law that has made criminals out of honest people and protects REAL criminals cannot be repealed in a minority position with an agenda driven opposition. But C-301 would have at least taken much of the onerous requirements out of the Liberal gun laws, while in no way whatsoever compromising any perceived “public safety.” We of the firearms sporting community cannot support a watered down version of C-301. Please be assured that your largest block of supporters is with you all the way, in spite of the attacks by a mean-spirited anti-firearms media, the less than honest “political” police, and agenda driven opposition leaders. Truth and integrity is what matters most, and you have shown it by not backing down to a dishonest attack by members of the opposition and a worse than yellow media.
