Sources: Voice of the Martyrs USA, Gospel for Asia

An elder of the Believers Church in Nepal was tragically killed in the early morning hours of October 20th while praying for someone who was supposedly quite ill. At 3 a.m., 36-year-old Debalal was called to the home of Kumar Sardar who urgently requested prayer, stating that he was experiencing pain. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. . . . So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. . . . He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”  Valerie Jarrett

Those Were the Good Old Days

In days gone by, whenever we looked at the incredibly dysfunctional political center of America, Washington, D.C., the most common question that came to mind was “What the hell were they thinking?!”  I, for one, am very glad those days are past us now.

Joan of Arc redux

Be careful what you ask for: you might get it. This sage advice offered by every parent ever listened to the angst dramatically rendered by their teenagers for some ridiculously trivial slight has existed for millennia. It ranks near the pinnacle of trite aphorisms and clichés.

As we all know, the media do a far better job of comforting the afflicted and, especially, afflicting the comfortable than the churches do.
