Fellow Americans: Today is 79th Anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy during World War II. Please read the attached, which is a copy of FDR's radio prayer to the American people the night of the D-Day invasion.
Note the opening to his prayer:
"Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity." (my bolding for emphasis)
