CALGARY—From 2014 to 2018, Alberta’s net contribution to federal finances was $94.9 billion, by far the largest contribution from any province during that time period, finds a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non- partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.
“The last half-decade has been a terrible time for Alberta’s economy. Nevertheless, Albertans have continued to make an disproportionate contribution to the health of the federal government’s finances throughout this difficult period,” said Ben Eisen, Fraser Institute senior fellow and co-author of A Friend in Need: How Albertans Continue to Keep Federal Finances Afloat, 2020.
